A hand woven karagumoy Filipino basket from the 19th century, with checkered two-toned structure, side opening and rustic character. Created in the Philippines during the 19th century, this decorative basket could be used as a newspaper or magazine stand. Originally created to be a farmer's basket to harvest grains, the piece is made of Karagumoy, also known as Pandanus simplex, whose leaves and fibers are used widely in the Philippines for thatching, ropes, and weaving various traditional handicrafts like baskets and mats.

Adorned with a subtle checked two-toned finish, this Filipino hand woven karagumoy basket will make for a great addition to any home, placed in a living room or kitchen where its simple appearance will bring a touch of authenticity.
